The project was launched on Thursday 17th November with the Mayor of Newbury, Jeff Beck cutting a cake and an extensive article in the Newbury Weekly News. The cake was taken around the shops for the shop employees and the public to enjoy.
Maree also recorded an interview on Newbury Sound to endorse this new town centre initiative.
The idea behind this initiative is that members of the team are available for both shop workers, market traders and shoppers alike.
“Among you, with you, for you: a caring, listening ear”
So many people carry burdens and worries of different kinds, and by giving them an opportunity for people to share them, it will make a difference to them as individuals and our community.
The team wear blue “Chaplain” gilets to make themselves easily identifiable and initially will be in town on Thursday mornings., though it is hoped it will be increased in the future. Volunteers have come from other Methodist churches in the Circuit and other churches in the town. There will be a second training day on Saturday 10th March.
